Description
Summary:The barebreasted Goby, a rare fish species from Lake Sibaya and the Kosi lakes in northern Zululand, South Africa, is threatened by pesticide/herbicide pollution and siltation in these coastal lakes and lagoons. DDT still is used for mosquito control in these regions, although they are adjacent to nature reserves. Conservation recommendations for this species include banning DDT in the region, incorporating the lakes into nature reserves, and controlling industrial development in these coastal lake basins. Further research on the biology of the barebreasted goby also is needed.
