Description
Summary:(2008) investigated the impacts of grassland proportion in mixed crop rotations on soil C and N accumulation, fertilizer replacement by residuals as well as annual and accumulated nitrate leaching losses. Residence times of groundwater in the streambeds of N-rich watersheds played an important factor in denitrification to decrease nitrate concentrations. [...] it was found that streambeds can decrease nitrate concentrations in groundwater that bypasses riparian zones and serve as a nitrate sink.
