Specific Heat and Susceptibility across the Entire Mixed Valence Regime: Ce ( Pd 1 − x Rh x ) 3 and Ce ( Pd 1 − y Ag y ) 3

For the first time, both specific heat and susceptibility have been measured in a system which spans the entire mixed-valence range in a continuous manner. Cerium ions in Ce(Pd1 -- xRhx)3 and Ce(Pd1 -- yAgy)3 go from tetravalent (nf = 0) for x > = 0.20 to trivalent (nf = 1) for y > = 0.13. Bot...

Description
Summary:For the first time, both specific heat and susceptibility have been measured in a system which spans the entire mixed-valence range in a continuous manner. Cerium ions in Ce(Pd1 -- xRhx)3 and Ce(Pd1 -- yAgy)3 go from tetravalent (nf = 0) for x > = 0.20 to trivalent (nf = 1) for y > = 0.13. Both gamma and Chi(O) increase dramatically as nf varies from 0 to 1. Comparisons to theories are presented.19 refs.--AA
