Description
Summary:The possibilities of introducing silicon carbides into a weldpool melt are studied. Silicon carbide powders are introduced into the weldpool melt providing carbide shielding from a direct arc action. Reaching the weldpool melt, silicon carbide is found to decompose completely, increasing the silicon and carbon contents and, hence, the hardness. When decomposing, silicon carbide is shown to act as a deoxidizer.
