Description
Summary:The development of a novel collector-bubbler device for the field collection and measurement of radon is reported. Samples of well water from New York State were analysed using the new device and by the traditional methods of liquid scintillation counting and laboratory based Lucas-cell counters. There was good agreement between the methods. Waterborne radon levels in 66 community and private water supplies of up to 4100 Bq per litre indicated the potential contribution of 1500 Bq per m3 to indoor air from water use in the home. Spatial co-ordinates of sample points were plotted on a geographic information system to correlate radon concentrations with bedrock geology.
