Description
Summary:The ability of the material to withstand during a car crash is one of the determining factors for the suitability of a material in automotive applications. Impact resistance is one of the important for the safety in auto parts which are difficult to quantify. Quantifying this property is a great advantage in product liability and safety while designing for the components. In addition to providing information not available from any other simple mechanical test, impact tests are quick and inexpensive. This study explores the influence of work material, weight & height of hammer on impact values. The optimal values of these parameters for maximum value of impact energy absorbed have been determined. Johnson cook damage model has been used to get optimal values of these parameters. The results of the experimentation were analyzed analytically as well as graphically using Abaqus software through interaction plots.
