Possibilities for compacting specimens of aluminum turnings by screw extrusion

Compaction of aluminum AK7 alloy turnings during preparation of prismatic billets by screw extrusion is studied. It is shown that with an extrusion pressure of 800 MPa and a back-pressure of 100 MPa compacts are prepared with porosity not exceeding 3%. At the same time, with compaction of turnings i...

Description
Summary:Compaction of aluminum AK7 alloy turnings during preparation of prismatic billets by screw extrusion is studied. It is shown that with an extrusion pressure of 800 MPa and a back-pressure of 100 MPa compacts are prepared with porosity not exceeding 3%. At the same time, with compaction of turnings in a rigid container with an axial pressure of 1200 MPa specimen porosity is 13%. This effect is explained by intense shear in powder material during screw extrusion.[PUBLICATION ABSTRACT]
