Summary: | The earth's natural source of ultraviolet radiation is the radiation of the sun in the wavelength range from 1 nm to 1000 M. The gas shell of the earth acts on this radiation as a large filter so that solar energy with a wavelength shorter than 286 nm is inhibited by the earths atmosphere or is scattered in its upper layers. For this reason, the region of ultraviolet spectra at the surface of the earth is restricted by the wavelength from 286 to 400 nm. A wider range of ultraviolet radiation is typical of artificial sources, i.e. mercury-quartz lamps and electric arcs in welding and plasma cutting of metals. The shortwave boundary of radiation of these sources is a wavelength to the order of 170-200 nm. exp 2-3 . Ultraviolet beams with a wavelength shorter than 185 nm are completely absorbed by the air and, consequently, the majority of authors, examining the ultraviolet beams from the biological position, restricted them by the range of 200 to 400 nm. The ultraviolet rays are characterised by high biological activity. Depending on the wavelength and radiation dose, they cause the fluorescence of crystalline lens, erythema and pigmentation of skin, denaturation of protein and other photochemical reactions. In this work the intensity of radiation in the electroophtalmic range of the spectrum as a result of the extreme stability of the radiant flux in welding was evaluated by photoelectric methods using a device with an electrometric circuit of the building of the charge in a condensor.
