Description
Summary:A magneto-optic mirror, consisting of a transparent bismuth-substituted yttrium-iron garnet layer over a multi-layer dielectric stack, has been assessed as a bias element for ring laser gyroscopes. Both transverse and polar Kerr effects have been measured using a multi-oscillator ring laser, as a function of applied magnetic field. The non-reciprocal phase shift and change in loss of the mirrors have been measured and the results compared with ellipsometric measurements and calculation.
