Description
Summary:This article investigates the eccentric ballistic impact response of square aluminum and fiber-metal laminated plates with the ANSYS AUTODYN hydrocode. The plates are impacted by a cylindrical projectile with normal high velocity. The validation of the numerical procedure is mainly carried out through comparisons with published experimental data. The modeling procedure and the verification of numerical results are described in detail so as to provide a useful reference. The effect of impact point eccentricity and different boundary conditions on the ballistic resistance of the targets is evaluated. It is found that the ballistic limits of the considered targets can be substantially affected by the boundary conditions and the eccentricity of impact. The targets are sorted in a descending order of ballistic resistance which is found invariant to the impact position.
