Summary:Good-quality rubidium sulfate Rb2SO4 crystals were grown by slow evaporation of the solvent. The study of single-phase crystalline structure was performed by means of X-ray diffraction. The band-energy structure, density of states with contributions of individual atoms, real and imaginary parts of the dielectric function and refractive indices are calculated and analyzed within density functional theory. The dispersion dependences of the refractive indices and birefringence of the Rb2SO4 crystal are studied experimentally. The peculiarities of the birefringence sign inversion in the middle of visible spectrum region, which can be of practical importance, were revealed.
