A Study on the Wave Energy Converter Using Mechanical PTO

This paper describes the design and the simulation of the wave energy converter (WEC) using mechanical power take-off (PTO). The WEC can convert the bidirectional motion of ocean waves into one-way rotation of an electric generator by using the pawl mechanism. Firstly, configuration of the proposed...

Description
Summary:This paper describes the design and the simulation of the wave energy converter (WEC) using mechanical power take-off (PTO). The WEC can convert the bidirectional motion of ocean waves into one-way rotation of an electric generator by using the pawl mechanism. Firstly, configuration of the proposed WEC is figured out to explain working principle. And then, the floating buoy dynamic, hydrodynamic model, PTO, generator model is simulated in Matlab/Simulink. Finally, the results indicate that the proposed WEC can work in high energy conversion efficiency.
