Description
Summary:The structure of the powder form of polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) (FLURALIT® trademark) was studied via a set of physical methods (electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry, differential thermal analysis (DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), 19 F nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and infrared spectroscopy). It is shown that thermal destruction of PTFE used for material production allows one to obtain the micron powders consisting of spheroidal particles and their agglomerates. Powder particles include low- and high-molecular fractions. The low-molecular fraction is revealed in the presence of side −CF 3 and end −CF=CF 2 groups. Supramolecular-structure features not peculiar to industrial samples of PTFE are observed as well.
