Summary:— This paper examines a multistep physicochemical process underlying the recycling of spent cobalt-containing current sources, which comprises an opening step in a shredder, secondary comminution in a rotor knife mill, and mechanical comminution of electrode materials in a ball mill, followed by chemical leaching and extraction, and allows the yield of cobalt compounds to be raised. In describing the combination of mechanical comminution and chemical leaching processes, we rely on results of studies of mechanochemical decomposition processes in the case of alkali metals [1]. To analyze the influence of a combination of mechanical and technological factors on the effectiveness of the preparation of required products, we derive governing dimensionless criteria and criterial relations using similarity and dimension theory methods.
