Summary: | A biopsy case of basal cell adenoma of the left submandibular gland was reported in a 15 years-old boy. The tumor was pigeon egg-sized, spherical in shape, and encapsulated by a fibrous capsule. Its cut surface was milk-white. Histologic picture of the tumor was a trabecular or tubular monomorphic adenoma with well developed elastic fibers in the interstitial tissue. Electron microscopy revealed 4 kinds of tumor cells, that is, squamous cell-like cells with tonofilaments, cells with a few filaments, secreting cells, and myoepithelial-like cells and moreover elastin, collagen fibrils and basement membrane-like substance in the interstitium. Possible production of the elastin by the myoepithelial-like cells of this tumor was discussed. |
