Description
Summary:In this paper, the coupled responses of wave-induced ship motions and tank sloshing are simulated by SPH-based open source code DualSPHysics. First the independent tank sloshing problem and floating body seakeeping problem are simulated by the SPH method and the results are compared with the existing experimental results to validate the SPH method and verification is also conducted. Then the seakeeping problem of an S175 containership with or without a liquid tank in head and beam regular waves is simulated and the results of ship motion responses by the SPH method are analyzed and compared with experimental data for validation. Finally, a membrane LNG ship equipped with four prismatic liquid tanks is used to simulate the wave-induced ship motions and tank sloshing of real liquid cargo ship. This study provides some insights into the comprehensive prediction of the hydrodynamic performance and tank sloshing loads of liquid cargo ships. •DualSPHysics is used to simulated floating body seakeeping coupled with tank sloshing.•The seakeeping problem of a membrane LNG ship with four liquid tanks is simulated by SPH.•The effect of sloshing loads on ship motions in head and beam waves is studied.
