Description
Summary:The effects of Pinealon and Cortexin on the behavior and caspase-3 activity in the brain of old rats subjected to the occlusion of the carotid arteries were compared. Administration of the short peptides increased the survival of animals after the occlusion of the carotid arteries. Injection of Pinealon prior to the occlusion of the carotid arteries was associated with longer behavioral sleep and decreases in orienting and motivated behavior, as well as locomotor activity. The rats injected with Cortexin prior to the occlusion of the carotid arteries also exhibited an increased duration of behavioral sleep. Pinealon administration moderately increased caspase-3 activity in both sham-operated animals and rats subjected to the occlusion of the carotid arteries.
