Abstract | The aim of this systematic review was to determine risk factors for the development of Stevens–Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN) following drug administration. The study protocol was registered on PROSPERO. The PRISMA guidelines were followed. On 17 October 2022, a search, advised by a librarian, was conducted in MEDLINE and Embase. Five studies were pooled. We report that HIV and male gender may be risk factors for SJS/TEN; however, this review was limited by a low number and quality of included studies. We conclude that a well-designed, large population-based case–control study with an appropriate control group is required to assess risk factors for the development of drug-induced SJS/TEN. |
