Description
Summary:We, the authors, Editors and Publisher of Agenda, have retracted the following article: Bongani Mbatha & Gabi Mkhize, "Kwaito's Busiswa Gqulu, 'Among men': Female perspective on black women's bodies in club spaces of South Africa", Agenda 34.1 (2020) 10.1080/10130950.2020.1738724 The above article has been retracted as, subsequent to publication, significant overlap in the 'Representation of African black sexuality' section has been identified with the following earlier thesis: Xavier O'Neal Livermon (2006) Kwaito bodies in African Diaspora space: the politics of popular music in post-apartheid South Africa, Thesis, University of California, Berkeley We note that the authors did cite the thesis in their article. However, appropriate acknowledgement for the high extent of overlap in this section was not given and could be misleading to the reader as being original. To clarify, these originality concerns do not affect the other sections within the article. The authors have agreed to the retraction and regret the inclusion of unattributed material. We have been informed in our decision-making by our policy on publishing ethics and integrity and the COPE guidelines on retractions. The retracted article will remain online to maintain the scholarly record, but it will be digitally watermarked on each page as "Retracted".
