Summary:Introduction The medial temporal lobe (MTL) is traditionally viewed as a key substrate for episodic memory consolidation, however, recent work (Bartha, 2005; Tracy, 2008) suggest it is also involved in aspects of language processing. Results The three reading conditions showed similar medial occipital lobe activation involving bilateral lingual gyrus (BA 17, 18) extending superiorly through the calcarine sulcus to the cuneus and inferiorly to the posterior extent of the fusiform gyrus (See Figure 1).
