Description
Summary:Nanoparticles can be used as carriers to move molecules into cells, but it is important that the cargo does not detach after dispersion. Click chemistry on the surface of azide‐terminated calcium phosphate nanoparticles permits the conjugation of all kinds of alkyne‐carrying molecules. This is demonstrated for a number of fluorescent dyes, including an aggregation‐induced emission (AIE) dye. Such biodegradable nanoparticles are easily taken up by cells where they can be detected by fluorescence microscopy. The stable covalent bond between nanoparticle and conjugated dye prevents their separation in biological media.
