Summary: | The reproductive cycle of the population of Parapenaeus longirostris from the northern region of Tunisia was followed during an 18 month period. The development of the ovaries related to size was treated with a logistic function. The cephalothoracic length corresponding to 50% of the mature females is 20.1 mm (19.9 to 20.4 mm), which could indicate that this species reproduces before the end of its first year of age. The monthly trend in the maturation index (IM = ovary weight/cephalothorax length) indicates that P. longirostris reproduces all year long, which seems to be usual for this species, with a peak in June-July and a minimum in winter. |
