Description
Summary:This chapter discusses how and when to use several codes in diagnosis with children and adolescents, as well as discuss the focus and progress of treatment related to these conditions, and give examples of the related clinical issues that may be present in clients. However, with the transition to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM‐5) and the alignment with international classification of diseases, tenth revision (ICD‐10) , codes, these conditions are most commonly referred to as Z codes, though there are also T, R, and E codes. Cognitive impairment may take the form of assuming others' intentions are malevolent, fearing abandonment, and expressing hostility. Behavioral impairment may take the form of arguments, violence, making threats, and avoidance of problems. The American psychiatric association identifies four categories of child abuse and maltreatment—child physical abuse, child sexual abuse, child neglect, and child psychological abuse.
