Research which used objective measures to assess vision in humans and animals is discussed along with 3 ways by which the gap has been bridged between human and animal pattern vision research. The use of wavelength discrimination tests and the use of the visually evoked cortical potentials technique in developmental research on color vision is also examined. (30 ref)
