Summary: | To the Editor.—James L. Ruhlen, MD, and Kent A. Huston, MD, described a patient with relapsing polychondritis (RP) associated with glomerulonephritis (1981;245:847). The authors did not mention whether a search for cryoglobulin was done. We recently observed a patient with essential cryoglobulinemia (EC) with vasculitis, arthritis, and Raynaud's phenomenon, in whom RP developed 18 months after the establishment of the diagnosis of EC. Renal involvement may occur in EC.1 Therefore, we wonder whether the first patient had the association of cryoglobulinemia, renal involvement, and RP, especially since unexplained liver function test abnormalities recorded by the authors had been previously reported in patients with EC.2 |
