Description
Summary:The author shares his experience as a Hispano, or native other, within the US to argue that the complex & paradoxical diversity debate is simplified by understanding that nature loathes uniformity. Although the US is one of the most demographically diverse nations in the world, the new protectionism & mistrust of the other has erroneously placed many goals & realities into conflict. His early recognition of otherness is traced through personal struggles to understand the complex realities over the past three decades. The difficulty of others to achieve entry points into religious & educational institutions is the result of over generalized assessments of individuals as stereotypes. If the well-being of a society is related to the participation of all citizens in its institutions, the true reflection of the US diversity presents a challenge. An editorial note follows.
