Summary:The reactivity of a solid in a solid state reaction is influenced by a number of factors like contact area, structure of reactants, structure of products, phase transition in reactants and the ambient atmosphere. The present study has been carried out on the formation of CuCr sub(2)O sub(4), CuFe sub(2)O sub(4) and CuAl sub(2)O sub(4) in order to gain better insight into the influence of the Jahn-Teller effect on reactivity.
