Abstract New restorative techniques for endodontically treated teeth are being proposed with the evolution of the restorative materials. The aim of our assessment was evaluate some of these new optons of treatment. Twenty-seven human freshly extracted maxillary molars were selected and their crown removed two millimeters above the cementum-enamel junction. They were reconstructed with amalgam (DFL ALLOY), composite resin (Adaptic) associated with dentin adhesive (Prisma Universal Bond III) and metal reinforced glass-ionomer (Ketac Silver) using an orthodontic wire, the Unimetric post or none of them. For the stress application the mounted specimens were placed in an Instron Universal testing machine in a 45 degree angle. At the end of the study, based upon statistical analysis applied to the data, it may be concluded that: 1. reconstructed teeth with composite cores, showed better breaking resistance when compared to those reconstructed with amalgam or silver reinforced glass ionomer cement; 2. reconstructed teeth with amalgam showed the same breaking resistance as those reconstructed with silver reinforced glass ionomer cement; 3. teeth with intre-root post Unimetric, orthodontic wire or even without intra-root post, showed the same breaking resistance.
