Evaluation of Rendered Animal Protein Ingredients for Replacement of Fish Meal in Practical Diets for Gibel Carp, Carassius auratus gibello (Bloch)

Description
Summary:The suitability of a combination of rendered animal protein ingredients, including poultry by-product meal (PBM), meat and bone meal (MBM) and blood meal (BM), as fish meal (FM) substitutes in practical diets for gibel carp were tested. It was shown that MBM was not an ideal protein source compared with FM due to its relatively poor amino acid profile when used as the sole protein source in the diets for rainbow trout, and consequently poor growth performance, because of lack of several indispensable amino acids. The carcass composition of gibel Carp was not affected by substitution of FM with rendered animal ingredients in the present experiment. This was consistent with the similar protein and energy levels used in the feed formulations.
