Summary:	This heuristic study uses the lenses of Humanistic/Existential Theory and a feminist perspective to intimately explore the author’s personal awakening to lesbianism during midlife after living 45 years as a heterosexual. The research question, “What factors contribute to a lack of awareness regarding one’s sexuality?” is explored in this heuristic research study. Heuristic research has Humanistic roots which will be outlined, followed by Feminist perspectives on lesbian identity formation. The data collected for this research is from the author’s personal journal entries, correspondence, peer supervision, student supervision, and self awareness gained at experiential existential trainings. This research explores the extraordinary transformation into the world of lesbianism that occurred for the author of this dissertation.
