Description
Summary:This study explores the differences between white and non-white women's college experiences, based on Tinto's Integration Model. A secondary analysis was conducted on 1,204 interviewed students from CSUF, in correspondence to their academic and social experiences. An analysis of academic and social integration, institutional/goal commitment, and external commitments (outside obligations) by race and sex was performed using crosstabulations (chi-square) and the independent samples test (t-test). The four hypotheses were not supported in this study. In opposition of the hypotheses, social integration rate and institutional/goal commitment rate for non-white women was higher than their counterparts and proved to be significant. Implications for future research are offered.
