The effects of a career development course on career maturity

The purpose of the study was to determine the effect of a career development course on the career maturity level (as measured by the Crites' Career Maturity Inventory Attitude Scale--CMI--ATT) of students enrolled in such a course. The treatment group consisted of 44 students enrolled in a freshman level career development course and 42 students enrolled in a freshman level English course. A significant interaction (p $<$.010) was observed for the experimental and control groups and time on an analysis of variance with repeated measures. Analysis of variance follow-up indicated the cell means were significantly different between the CMI-ATT pretest scores of the experimental and control groups. The cell means were significantly different between the CMI-ATT pretest and posttest scores for the experimental group. It was concluded that the career maturity level of the students enrolled in the career development course did increase. Also, this study attempted to determine if there would be a difference in the career maturity level between males and females and between student types (as determined by the Clark-Trow Student Typology) as a result of the career development course. There were no significant differences in the career maturity level between the sexes or between student types. Discussion of findings, conclusions and recommendations are given.
