Summary: | This thesis is presented as a compilation of essays with innovation as a common theme. Essay I is a taxonomic approach to the understanding of different strategies of collaboration in the development of innovations. Essay II analyses the American tractor industry through an industrial dynamics perspective. Based on a completely original database, we identify three major technological breakthroughs in the American tractor industry and test the hypothesis that they influenced firms’ survival. Essay III focuses on the effects of product and process innovation along the history of an industry. This paper examines the effects of these two types of innovation on the survival of firms throughout the whole history of the American feature film industry. Essay IV studies the determinants of different firm exit modes. Using an original database on the film industry since 1982, the determinants of mergers & acquisitions versus liquidation are analysed. |
