Polarization-Entangled Photons From Ultrathin Nonlinear Layers

We report on the first-time g eneration o f p olarization-entangled photons via spontaneous parametric down-conversion in ultrathin nonlinear layers. Relaxed phase matching leads to an unprecedented tunability of the two-photon polarization state, not achievable in bulk sources.
