Description
Summary:The common barriers to predicting reliability are examined. The universal problem that confronts the reliability community is that it is not feasible to collect, scrutinize, and store all needed information and then put it into the available databases. The focus for using CAE (computer-aided engineering) among DoD contractors has been on electronic components, but the electromechanical and mechanical areas of design are important too. It is emphasized that many formidable barriers to the use of CAE are common to all design areas. Three reliability-prediction modeling approaches are discussed: traditional statistical methods, component and system modeling and parts modeling.< >
