Abstract In this paper, a new chaos based secure communication system is proposed. In the proposed system, the process and measurement equations of the state space representation of Kalman filter are constructed based on the method which is used to generate chaotic sequence. The initial state vector for Kalman filtering algorithm is obtained using halving method of chaotic signal estimation. Then, the subsequent state vectors are estimated using Kalman filtering algorithm at every symbol duration. The performance of the proposed system is analyzed in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) environment. The simulation results show that the performance of the proposed system improves as the length of the state vector increases
