Description
Summary:This paper presents the process of analyzing the performance of an externally excited synchronous machine (EESM). The paper aims to provide engineers and researchers with a simple process to extract motor maps using finite element analysis (FEA) followed by an analytical post-processing of the simulation results. An example motor is considered where the flux maps are extracted through FEA calculations and then used to define the operational limits of the motor at a specific dc-link voltage level using an optimization algorithm. Within the operational limits of the motor, the losses are then minimized and finally, the results from the optimization are shown.
