Description
Summary:In intermedial studies, the processes of media representation and transmediation refer to the way in which certain media characteristics are transformed by being transferred from a given medium to another. The analysis of these phenomena involving a certain type of qualified medium or specific media products according to Lars Ellestrom (2014, 2017, 2021) can help to identify the ways in which these media communicate specific information and for what purpose. In this text, I intend to examine media representation and transmediation strategies in comics, taking as an example the case of Sabrina, by Nick Drnaso, the first graphic novel to be nominated for the Man Booker Prize. My objective is to reflect on the communicational function of such medial phenomena in the book, seeking to understand how these types of media transformation operate in processes of signification. Using some examples of Sabrina, I point out how such phenomena influence the way we interpret the narrative events, especially the news that reverberate in the murder of the main character of the book.
