Effect of auditory stress and high calorie diet on body weight, lipids and glycemia in wistar rats /Efeitos do estresse auditivo e da dieta hipercalorica sobre o peso corporal, lipidios e glicemia de ratos wistar

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of auditory stress and high calorie diet on body weight, lipids and glycemia in Wistar rats. Twenty-eight rats were divided into groups: C (control), H (high calorie diet without stress), E (commercial diet with stress) & HE (high calorie diet without stress). Food intake, weight gain, feed efficiency ratio (FER), total cholesterol, HDL--cholesterol, triacylglycerols, total hepatic lipids and glycemia were evaluated. The source of stress used was music. Rats in group H showed food consumption equal to the HE group and lower than groups C and E. There was no statistical difference between groups in weight gain, FER and liver weight. Groups H and HE showed the highest values of total cholesterol and HDL - cholesterol, and group H presented the lowest value of triacylglycerols. Groups H and HE showed higher liver lipid values than groups C and E. The animals in the HE group had the highest blood glucose values at the end of the experiment when compared with groups C and H. The source of stress and high calorie diet did not affect weight gain. However, the high calorie diet alone and in combination with stress increased levels of total cholesterol and HDL - cholesterol and liver lipids, but were not cause hyperglycemia.
