Description
Summary:New developments in art generate new discourse and call for new language. Terms such as technoetics, moistmedia, and biotelematics signal the emergence of new media practices. The infrastructure -- material, conceptual and spiritual -- needed to support this emergence calls for creative agency, architectural forms and cultural organisms hitherto unknown and unprecedented. As artists we can alert ourselves to the future, just as we can redefine ourselves, but in the process of redefinition -- dependent as that may be on telematics (planetary connectivity), nanotechnology (bottom up construction), or quantum computing (accelerated and expanded cogrution)-we may be wise to seek re-entry into the spiritual domain that has long been blocked by the excessive materialism and insistent reductionism of our times.
