Summary:We evaluated the sanitary conditions of human milk samples from a Human Milk Bank (HMB) in the city of Sao Luis--MA, through the analysis of 50 samples of human milk (LH) in nature. We conducted counts viable mesophilic aerobic bacteria, coliforms at 35[degrees]C and 45[degrees]C, Staphylococcus coagulase positive and Salmonella sp. Six inspections were carried out in the HMB with filling in a record of avaliation, containing nine attributes to informations about hygiene conditions of local and procedures. In none of the milk samples showed the presence of Salmonella sp. and Coliforms at 45[degrees]C, however it was observed the presence of micro-organisms of the coliform group at 35[degrees]C, Staphylococcus coagulase positive and viable mesophilic aerobic bacteria. It was found through surveys that showed that HMB 92.60% compliance to hygiene and sanitary requirements analyzed. KEYWORDS: Milk banks; human milk; microbiology; coliforms. Avaliaram-se as condicoes higienico-sanitarias de amostras de leite humano de um Banco de Leite Humano (BLH) na cidade de Sao Luis--MA, por meio da analise de 50 amostras de Leite Humano (LH) in natura. Realizou-se contagem de bacterias aerobias mesofilas viaveis, Coliformes a 35[degrees]C e a 45[degrees]C, Staphylococcus coagulase positiva e Salmonella sp. Realizaram-se no BLH seis vistorias com preenchimento de ficha de avaliacao, contendo nove atributos para obtencao de informacoes sobre as condicoes higienicas do local e seus procedimentos. Em nenhuma das amostras de leite foi constatada a presenca de Salmonella sp. e Coliformes a 45[degrees]C, entretanto foi observada a presenca de micro-organismos do grupo Coliformes a 35[degrees]C, Staphylococcus coagulase positiva e bacterias aerobias mesofilas viaveis. Constatou-se por meio das vistorias que o referido BLH apresentou 92,60% de conformidade aos requisitos higienico-sanitarios analisados.
