Summary:Because of its share in gross domestic product and total employment, commerce sector has very important role in the economy of the Republic of Serbia. Within it, special place belongs to retail sector, especially having in mind the arrival of large retail chains that overcome the wholesale. However, despite noticeable progress in this sector there are many problems and challenges facing these companies. Aggravating factor is the current economic crisis, which affects not only commerce, but all other economy sectors. In order to analyze the financial position of major FMCG retail companies in a given market circumstances, in this paper we have opted for the application of 'BEX' model. Through analysis of individual indicators, we have attempted to identify the key issues facing retailers in the Republic of Serbia. Also, we have presented some proposals, which applications can improve the current situation on FMCG retail market.
