Description
Summary:The present research refers to the study of the behavior of a clayey soil, which will be used as support for the foundations of the structures of a housing complex, located in the city of Icó-CE. The objective of this work is to investigate the efficiency of the compaction technique in the improvement of the studied soil, based on the results of the oedometric tests and the plate load test. For this, a soil characterization was carried out by means of laboratory tests (grain size, liquidity limit, plasticity limit, real density, compaction and CBR) and field (SPT). Subsequently, special double-edometric type tests and direct load tests were carried out under different humidity conditions. By the analysis of the results it was possible to verify that the compaction was an efficient technique to reduce or even reduce the collapse potential of the studied soil. In addition, the results of the double edometric tests obtained were in agreement with the results obtained with the direct load tests performed.
