Summary: | This article looks at the emergence of the 'Save Research' movement, recounting the history of the collective from the mobilisation phase that began in January 2004 to its disbanding in March 2006. Written in the first person the author has the distinctive feature of having participated in social movements as well as studying them from a sociological standpoint it examines the process of engagement and disengagement and, more profoundly, the problem of balancing the researchers position with that of the activist.
