Description
Summary:In the past, manufacturers have used racing to prove the performance and durability of their products, but times have changed. Racing has become more of an entertainment activity than automotive proving ground. Director of Ford Racing Technology, Dan Davis, thinks there are certain areas of race car development where they will be relied on more, such as areas like aerodynamics and material sciences. Herb Fishel of GM says that if technology can be applied to achieve the right balance in competition and entertainment, then it should not be looked at as an expensive or an unpoliceable type of application. Fishel believes that to get this balance between competition, entertainment, business, technology, cost and safety, racecars are going to have to be revolutionary in concept.
