Description
Summary:Non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and suicidal behaviors (SB) have continued to rise in prevalence in adolescents with severe consequences. School counselors' self-efficacy in working with students who exhibit NSSI and SB is critically important. This study's research explored school counselors' self-efficacy with NSSI and SB when working with adolescents in elementary, middle, and high schools across the country. Some highlights of statistically significant findings are school counseling self-efficacy when working with NSSI and SB is higher in elementary school counselors, the years of work experience for the school counselor impacts self-efficacy with NSSI and SB, formal educational opportunities produce an increase in self-efficacy with NSSI, and the increased number of counseling referrals with NSSI and SB elevates self-efficacy.
