Summary:	Nowadays the number of devastating injuries is increasing, as a consequence of traffic accidents and criminal incidents, too. Patients are often admitted in a critical state, the mortality rate in these cases is very high (50% and more). To decrease this high mortality, new treatment approaches must be chosen incl. the method called damage control. Knowledge of leading foreign centres are evaluated together with our clinical experience.
