Description
Summary:Using an automated laser-fiber spectrofluorimeter, the fluorescence spectra of normal and malignant tissues sensibilized by chlorin e6 and flurenate in vivo and ex vivo were studied. A quenching of intrinsic fluorescence of sensibilized tissues was found, which was more evident in the affected regions. The observed effect is related to electron excitation energy transfer from endogenous fluorophores to the photosensitizers administered. The possibility of enhancing the sensitivity of fluorescence diagnosis of malignant tumors is discussed.
