Description
Summary:The Ufa Industrial Center (UIC, the Preural region) is characterized by diverse forms of relief and air pollution mainly with hydrocarbons. This combination accounts for a specific response of tree plants to technogenic factors (Urazgil'din, 1998). The tolerance of Pinus sylvestris L. and Larix sukaczewii Dyl. to pollution with petrochemicals in the UIC was estimated in 1998 and 1999 by studying the structure of root systems in these species. Studies were performed in cultivated tree stands of the Ufa sanitary protection zone, located in the immediate vicinity of several petroleum plants (PP). Pinus sylvestris and L. sukaczewii stands growing 40 km southwest of the UIC were used as a control (southerly and southwesterly winds prevail in the region).
