Description
Summary:Otisco lake was subject to ''whitings' due to the precipitation of calcium carbonate. Samples were analysed for inorganic particulate concentration, size, and elemental composition. The contributions of water, gelbstoff, chlorophyll and calcium carbonate to volume absorption and scattering coefficients were evaluated. The observed changes in Secchi depth and vertical attenuation coefficient, from June to August, were theoretically consistent with an approximate doubling of volume-scattering coefficient (due to calcium carbonate), with little or no change of volume absorption coefficient.
